Day 1 & 2Porto, Portugal

Upon arrival you will transferred to your hotel before enjoying an afternoon tour of Porto’s historic center. Walk through Ribeira Square; visit the Palácio da Bolsa (Stock Exchange Palace), the magnificent neo-Gothic Livraria Lello bookshop, and the gothic Church of São Francisco. On Day 2, explore the Douro Valley port wine region. Stop at a wine estate for a cellar tour and instructional wine tasting by the owner. Later, take a private, narrated cruise along the Douro River in a rabelo, a flat-bottomed boat used to transport wine. (B)

Day 3 – 5Óbidos, Sintra, Cascais & Lisbon

Visit the impressive Batalha and Alcobaa monasteries before departing Porto and heading south to Lisbon. En route, explore the medieval white-walled town of bidos. In Lisbon, on Day 4, a morning walking tour takes you through the old Alfama district to visits the hilltop Castelo de São Jorge and impressive Tile Museum (Museu Nacional do Azulejo). In the afternoon, see the 16th century Torre de Belm tower and tour the Jerónimos Monastery. On Day 5, travel west to Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site dotted with grand palaces and castles. A walking tour includes the medieval city center and guided visits to the Pena National Palace. Continue along the Portuguese Riviera stopping in quaint Cascais, romantic Estoril, and to tour the National Palace in Queluz. (3B)

Day 6Évora

Drive inland to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Évora. Tour the 2,000-year-old town center, visit the medieval Cathedral, Capela dos Ossos (Chapel of Bones), and Church of São Francisco. At midday, stop at a renowned wine estate set amid the Alentejo plains. Enjoy a cellar tour, instructional wine and olive oil tastings, and a gourmet lunch. (B, L)

Day 7 & 8Évora, Arraiolos, Lisbon & Depart for Home

On Day 7, tour a charming wine estate followed by an instructional wine tasting. Traveling back to Lisbon, stop in Arraiolos to visit the medieval castle and see the paintings at the Church of São Salvador. On Day 8, enjoy time in Lisbon before you are transferred to the airport for your flight home or on to your next destination.(2B)
